Smoot (right), vice president for academic affairs at the university, about Emmerson's appointment as a Woodrow Wilson fellow. Emmerson, a 1970 graduate of Columbia Union College, Washington, D.C., was one of 200 college seniors sharing this year in grants totalling $420,000 from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Other students elected in the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship competition in January 1970 have received scholarships and stipends from a wide varierty of institutions. Then in its twenthy-fifth year, the Foundation had awarded over 15,000 grants to men and women who showed exceptional interest and ability in college teaching. Funds for the Fellowships were provided by the Ford Foundation, the Charles Merrill Trust, and the Avalon and Old Dominion Foundations |
