Smith and his wife, Glee, served the Seventh-day Adventist church for over 45 years before his retirement on September 3, 1968. 33 of those years were spent in conference administration. For 22 of those 33 years, Smith served as the conference president for the Northern, Central, and Lake Unions (a subdivision of the North American division of the SDA church which is in turn a subdivision of the General Conference). He and his wife and associates are shown here in the Hoosier Room of the Andrews University dining facility at a banquet held in his honor as he announced his retirement.
