Image Information:
Title:[Edna Sadie Farnsworth]
Description:Edna Sadie Farnsworth (1884 - 1966) was the first full-time music teacher at Atlantic Union College, her alma mater. Farnsworth was, by all accounts, an exceptional talent as a performing musician and had a natural love of music. In addition to drawing piano students from a wide area, she also taught music theory and music appreciation. She was a frequent recitalist and orchestral pianist for the school, and would even play upbeat music for school marches which the students referred to as vegetarian square dancing. (Note: this was somewhat of an inside joke as the Seventh-day Adventist Church promotes a balanced vegetarian diet). Farnsworth continued piano lessons throughout much of her adult life, studying under the famous composer Hienrich Gebhard who also tutored Leonard Bernstein. She devoted 33 years of her professional life to teaching music at AUC before moving to the Inland Empire region of southern California where she pursued further education in music eventually obtaining an masters of Music at the age of 56. She then continud to teach music at Southern Adventist University for another 22 years
