The canvassing organization is really a self-supporting missionary work. It furnishes employment to the canvasser, brings the truth to the knowledge of the people, fits workers for foreign fields, and hastens the coming of the Lord. A score of students might be pointed out in the College, who could not have attended this year had it not been for the means earned in the canvassing field. Our denomination is selling more books than any other in the country, with the exception of the Methodist,. whose Book Concern has been established for a century. Our people should pray for the canvasser, and encourage him in every way. We may expect the time to come when the entire denomination will be resolved into ministers, Bible workers, book makers, and book sellers.   Finally Brother King’s inspiring enthusiasm prevailed. The brethren consented to try  his plan, although, generally speaking, They felt the proposition to be na expensive one, and feared greatly that the books would not sell. And it was not until Brethren J.N. Loughboroug and W.C.White had urged the importance of the plan, and after Brother King had promised to the first edition, that the Review and Herald, as the publishing association was now known, agreed to print an edition of five hundred. The first edition of “Thoughts on Daniel and Revelation” sold so readily that not Only were new and betther Editions prepared, but the sale o four books by self-supporing colporteurs became a policy of the movement. Through the agency of the tract Societies, periodicals and publications have been sent to all the States and Territories o four country, to the Canadas, Nova Scotia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Egypt, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, East and West Indias, Australia, Japan, China, Central and South America, Vancouver’s Island, Madeira Island, Cape of Good Hope, Finland, and to diferente points on the Mediterranean, Baltic, Red, and Black Seas. The great and good work which the Lord has accomplished through Elder S. N. Haskell and his fellows-laborers in the tract cause will not be fully seen and appreciated in this life. Time can never reveal the importance of this work; eternity alone will unfold it. Those whom the Lord led out in the organization o four Conferences, the several associations and societies, and in the equitable plan adopted by our people to raise funds for the Support of the cause had but a faint idea of the great and importante work They were then doing. Neither can the friends of the cause now comprehend a tithe of the results of the Tract Institutes being held in the several conferences.   BATTLE CREEK, MICH., THURSDAY, MAY 27, 1880.
